[...] What are they penalties for assault on a police officer in the state of Kansas? I have an acquaintance that was extremely drunk and she was arrested for an unrelated manner. When they were trying to arrested her for this other manner, she slugged the officer. She is being charged now for 3 counts of obstructing justice and one count of assault on a police officer. I really don't feel sorry for her but I was just curious to know what are the penalties for assault on a police officer. It could be a Class A Misdemeanor, or a Severity 5 Felony, depending on the circumstances. The misdemeanor carries up to one year in jail, the felony is punishable by 32-52 months in prison. The reason for the large variance in the felony is becuase Kansas considers your prior record. You can find the penalty scale at this link: http://www.kansascitycriminaldefenselawy [...]
