Many Kansas misdemeanor criminal charges and some lesser felony offenses can be expunged from your record after 3 or 5 years.

If you were arrested but not convicted of a crime, that arrest record can be expunged/sealed also.

The benefits of expungment are significant. A criminal charge or conviction that shows up on a common background check can prevent you from getting a job, school admission or a loan, renting an apartment, or community volunteering efforts that require background checks and questions about criminal history.

If you have enough time without any additional criminal legal problems, most common criminal offenses can be sealed and removed from your record.

Common misdemeanors that are eligible for expungement in Kansas include shoplifting, drug possession, assault, bad checks, and driving on a suspended license.

Serious or violent felonies cannot be expunged, such asĀ  murder, and sex offenses.

Expunged crimes don’t go away completely. If you get in trouble with the law again, your history can be used against you as prior offenses.

Some expungement can be done with paperwork at the courthouse, and a $100 filing fees. Other expungement require hearings, and it is possible for the victims of the crime, or law enforcement officials to object.

I can help with expungement paperwork and hearings, and make sure it gets done right. Call me for a consultation.
